As a 2017 New York Fashion Week ambassador, J Balvin always advocates for more Latino representation in fashion and entertainment. Hence his linguistic musical preference for Spanish. The Pop Star’s own colorful aesthetic comes influenced by Pharrell Willams and Kanye West. The AJ 1 High x J Balvin also delivers on a rainbow of colors. The Balvin designed AJ 1 High now goes by the official nickname “Colores Y Vibras”, named for his two most recent albums and the effect given off by the colorway.
For the second Latino artist collaboration, El Colombiano called on Jordan Brand NRG legend Franklin Cook to execute a multicolored dream-sneaker. The AJ 1 x J Balvin has been given a canvas upper makeover allowing for the burst of spectral colors. Starting on the mid-forefoot and working out Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, and Blue fade into one another.
Matching mudguard and heel panels flourish in jagged-edged canvas outlining the perforated toe box and ankles, respectively. Similarly, the extended canvas on the collar creates a more cloud-like silhouette in the same gradient Blue-Green. The multicolored deconstructed tongue with exposed foam sport two separate tongue tabs.
The left AJ 1 features J Balvin’s Yellow Smiley Face with Pink lightning for eyes on an ombre Green background. Meanwhile, the right Jordan 1 sports a Black Jumpman on a gradient Yellow-Orange-Red combination reminiscent of a sunset. Subsequently, the usually White Air midsole shows up in Pink Foam, making the pair stand out even more among the Jordan 1 collection. The Black collar, sockliner, laces, and Air Jordan Wings create depth allowing the colors to shine even brighter.
In standard reverse fashion, Nike Swooshes reverse the spectrum of colors along the quarter panels on top of more Black jagged edge canvas. Additionally, the Velcro Smiley Face Velcro pieces on the ankle come off and on as you see fit.
